The Funky Chicken

I know I have been absent here for awhile but I just had one of those Years!!!  But I just had to share this with you. I was at my daughters job the other night and as we were sitting there talking I thought I heard a chicken, it sounded really close, in fact it sounded like it was INSIDE with us! So I said "Is that chicken in here?" And my daughter tells me a really cute story about how her bosses son emptied his toy chest and hid the chicken from his Mom, who of course found it.  So I tried calling it, and after a few minutes....

THIS comes walking out of the back!

Now I have seen alot of chickens in my day, but I have never, ever seen one that looked like this...
Picture
I honestly didn't know whether to run from it or pick it up and hug it. It was really tame and friendly and you could tell it was used to people...
Picture
And the feet! The hair! Were they feathers? Or fur? And the head, the comb was triple most roosters even.

Turns out when my daughter talked to her boss on the phone later her boss was shocked that the chicken was there. Apparently she had put it out to try and let it learn to be outside. And she told my daughter to put it out when she closed the office. Only problem with that is the office is right next to a busy main road...and of course I can't take it home, my landlord is very anti chicken and I have 2 cats so no hiding it inside...
Picture
So with minimal begging and pleading my sweet sweet daughter took it home
Picture
I swear it looked at me with gratitude!  Will keep you posted...........

Smiles,

XO

Mom! You will be glad to know after it's first night of sleeping in the yard we thought he left us when we woke up! Well here we are day 3 and Terrance has just come inside from feeding "it!" It has made itself a home under our side porch.. In the shade, one smart chicken.

Just found your blog and have loved reading it all! Haven't been to the Keys in 30+ years. Your blog has inspired a return trip to Key West over Christmas. I spent quite a bit of time there as a kid, but I doubt that I'll recognize much of anything! Very much looking forward to it.

Thank you S. Washington!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I always tell visitors that if they get off of Duval St. (particularly the lower numbered blocks) that Key West still feels the same. I hope you enjoy your visit and I'm very flattered my blog inspired you to come back.
Smiles,

Toni

P.S. I'm sorry I just saw this comment, things weren't redirected right. Love to hear from readers though, so Thanks again!
